IC Information:
Name: Nobuo Akagi (Preincarnation) / Thomas Akagi (Reincarnation)
Canon: Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger
Age: 29 (preincarnation), 27 (reincarnation)
Preincarnation Appearance: Here's a picture

Any differences: Besides better grooming and better clothes, no change.

Preincarnated History: Nobuo Akagi was born in 1983 and was pretty much doomed from the start. Much about his childhood is not known beyond the fact he has been watching the Super Sentai franchise for as long as he can remember and has idolized the heroes shown in it his whole life. He has also apparently been wearing versions of that scarf since at least 1988. He has only ever mentioned his mother when talking about his home life leading me to believe he was raised by his mother alone.

Super Sentai, for clarification, is a live action television program that has been running for around 37 years in Japan. You know Power Rangers? Literally that. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers was based off of the 16th Super Sentai season. Six seasons that're particularly important, are Jetman, Zyuranger, Dairanger, Hurricanger, Dekaranger, and Boukenger as they are the six seasons that Nobuo has used weaponry based off of. While they're the most important, he has encyclopedic knowledge of all Sentai, claiming to be one of the top three most knowledgeable people in Japan when it comes to Sentai.

His idol worship of sentai continued all through his education, to the point he openly admitted his interests and stated his goals were to be like the heroes he so loved and perhaps even get to be one someday. Living so close to Akihabara, the nerd district of Tokyo, he naturally became interested in anime and other stereotypical otaku interests including karaoke and collecting merchandise of both sentai and anime. Sometime before the start of the series he began working at the Sasaki Pompoko Delivery company, this decision being made partly due to the business having the same initials as Special Police Dekaranger.

This all changed in April of 2012 when, after imagining he helped stop a purse snatcher, he was scouted by Hiroyo Hakase. After leading Nobuo and two others to her Sentai themed cafe, she offered them the chance to become actual sentai heroes, the Akibarangers, which Nobuo quickly accepted and took the position as leader. After defeating their first monster, Hakase informed the team that their adventures were not real and only existed in their minds. After a bout of depression at this revelation, Nobuo returned to his position as leader and showed the true strength of his delusions, making a delusion of an official hero appear to help them in a fight.

What followed were multiple encounters with their enemy, the Guerrilla Marketing Firm B and their commander Malshina. The routine continued, until Malshina managed to appear in reality after an especially delusional battle. Hakase then revealed to the Akibarangers that the Moe Moe Z-Cunes were created by her father, a scientist who discovered a dimension that reacted to human thought. However before much could come of his discovery he decided to change careers, entering into the world of anime production. Unfortunately this was a bad choice on his part as he was not too lucky in the field, soon finding himself fired by his employers and out of work. It was also revealed that Malshina was based on a character design he once created. After a few more battles, all still happening in delusions with Malshina luring the Akibarangers into them and the Akibarangers attempting to become deluded enough during the fights in order to enter the real world themselves, things changed once again.

Pretending to be Hakase, Malshina contacted the Akibarangers during a fight, telling them that they had to "break down the wall" in order to defeat that week's monster. What this caused was the barrier between the delusion dimension and reality to break down, allowing Guerilla Marketer monster to appear in the real world at will. The enemy leader chosen then to reveal himself, Doctor Z who was Hakase's father turned to evil. At the same time this meant Nobuo and the others couldn't transform as the Delusion Dimension no longer existed. However, after a monster attacked the woman Nobuo had a completely one sided crush on, he managed to transform in reality.

From there, everything broke down. Over the next couple fights, Nobuo realized things were following normal Super Sentai plot structures, including attempts to write him out of the show and replace Malshina with a new villain commander. It was then Nobuo realized and told both his teammates and Malshina that they were merely characters in a series called "Hikonin Sentai Akibaranger." Using their awareness, they watched their own opening credits to learn who their real enemy was, their producer Saburo Hatte. Over the course of their final battle with Doctor Z, the Akibarangers attempted to stop their series from ending with the help of Malshina who seemed to have started a romance with Nobuo. In the end though, they were unable to defeat the literal "The End" symbol that appeared in the final moments of the episode.

Reincarnated History: Thomas Akagi was born in 1985 to a pair of second generation Japanese-Americans in California. His father worked as an engineer while his mother was a high school teacher. His parents named him Thomas at the insistence of his mother over wanting their son to have an easier time fitting in. Thomas was followed six years later by his brother Zachary who his parents trusted Thomas to watch out for. Both Thomas and Zach attended public school for the entirety of their education, with Thomas helping his younger brother as much as possible when he could. Thomas spent his school years with his nose to the grindstone and helping raise his younger brother as both his parents were often busy. Sadly, this didn't leave him much time for friends at first, but he considered his brother's future worth it.

As soon as he was old enough, Thomas began working in town, his parents trusting his younger brother to look after himself while they all were away. It was during this time in his life, thanks to his extra income and lessened duties toward his younger brother, Thomas' social life grew as he saved toward college. Things took a turn for the worst during high school, while his parent's had never had to worry about him and weren't burdened by Zachary, problems had begun to develop between the two of them, ending in a nasty divorce right as Thomas was to leave for college. His father chose to stay in California while his mother, who had gotten custody of Zach, moved to the Midwest. To Thomas, now Tom, this removed any choice in college for him deciding to attend college near the town his mother had moved to, for his brother.

Tom majored in engineering, having always found his father's job to be amazing and having an odd fondness for designing toys. Although he lived on campus, his mother kept a room for him at her home which he used as a workshop and as an excuse to help look after his younger brother when he could. After obtaining his degree, Tom spent a few more years with his brother and mother, using his father's connections to get a job for a nearby branch of the company he worked for.

Once Zach had gone to college though, Tom quit and decided to move out to the east coast, finally seeing himself as free and wanting to finish off his 20s by being a bit selfish. It is because of that he found himself in Locke City in March of 2013, right as a pink light appeared in the sky.

First Echo: Nobuo's first Echo occurred a few days after moving to Locke City, when the pink aurora appeared in the sky. With an odd sense of accomplishment and sudden positive opinion toward alpacas, a white muffler suddenly appeared around his neck and he has grown quite fond of it ever since.

Preincarnation Personality: In a word, Nobuo is eccentric. His whole life he has been enamored with Super Sentai heroes and has partly modeled his personality on them. That's not to say he's the perfect hero or anything, but he has an honest and strong desire to help people. This is very clearly shown in the first episode of Akibaranger when he tries to save a woman from a purse snatcher. He crashed his bike on the way to help and imagined he helped her, but he still reacted to a cry for help and wanted to help. This is also the reason he was so depressed upon finding out that his fights against evil weren't real. He wasn't helping to protect the town he loved from evil, he was just messing around. It was his strong love for Sentai that made him continue though, convinced he could still use this opportunity to maybe become an official hero one day to inspire kids like him.

Sentai isn't his only love; anime is also a large portion of his life. As shown by him passing up a Sentai collectible when he remembered merchandise for his favorite anime was coming out. This reminder in the form of a delusion of the main character of the anime being sad Nobuo seemingly loved Sentai more. Nobuo also has a more human love, a woman named Sayaka, who he pines for throughout the first season of Akibaranger to the point that days he delivers to her office are his happiest days and the attempted rewrite of Akibaranger uses her moving to America to get Nobuo out of Akihabara. This particular romance doesn't last though since, after realizing they were fictional, he realizes that she isn't exactly much of a person since she isn't aware. This may be part of the reason Nobuo seems to start a romance with Malshina in the final episode of the season.

Despite his social and romantic failings, Nobuo is not without friends. In episode three of season 1, Nobuo is shown out drinking with friends who are apparently not otaku as Nobuo is, suggesting they're either friends from school or work. Season 2 also confirms that Nobuo does have other otaku friends  as he commissions a friend of his friend to create a figurine for himself. By far his closest friends have to be the other two Akibarangers and the mission control at the Sentai cafe.

Nobuo was very good friends with Moegi, AkibaYellow, thanks to their many shared interests. They would hang out outside of being Akibarangers, as shown by the two of them going cosplay shopping together. In season 2 the depth of his friendship with  is shown. They're very close friends, to the point that he already had plans in mind for something fun to do at the reception should Moegi ever get married. He has also been shown to care about Hakase, as shown in the final episode of season 1 when Nobuo would rather Hakase be happy with her father than make sure he continued to be evil for the sake of himself and the others. Nobuo and Mitsuki, AkibaBlue, are friends as well. Despite her thinking him and utter loser, over the course of the series Mitsuki and Nobuo bond over her growing interest in Sentai, culminating in Mitsuki getting to train with an official suit actor when the two of them sneak into Toei studios. Nobuo didn't actually mean for it to happen, but it still strengthened their relationship.

Any differences: The biggest difference between Nobuo and Tom is obviously the lack of the otaku lifestyle in Tom. Tom is a much more responsible and mature adult, partly because he never had the opportunity not to be. As such, he doesn't have the all-encompassing interests that Nobuo does, but it also means he isn't as socially awkward and lacking in money due to buying merchandise. Although Tom still does enjoy toys due to helping raise his younger brother and wanting to make other's happy.

They're both still very alike in kindness and wanting to help people. With Nobuo it is his drive to be a hero, while for Tom it was mostly centered on helping his younger brother grow up and then to help him through his parent's divorce. Tom is more self-sacrificing than Nobuo though, not the type to drag a friend along while trespassing for his own fun.Unlike Nobuo, Tom has actually had a love life. It was more during college than anything, but he did date and most certainly wasn't the hopeless loser Nobuo was.

Another glaring difference is in Obuo's strongest feature, being deluded. Tom is actually a very grounded individual, with his dreams being more realistic than being a super hero. As such, he isn't prone to the deep and expansive daydreams Nobuo was.

Abilities: As a normal person with nothing to help him, Nobuo had all the strength, agility, and endurance of ... well of an otaku with a bike delivery job. Whether he's even really good at his job or riding a bike isn't very clear as the one time he took his bike off of flat terrain he immediately crashed and sent himself flying. The only extraordinary thing about Nobuo is how imaginative and deluded he is. While most have occasional little fantasies in his head, Nobuo seems incapable of not having multiple a day and they're so engrossing that he will often do the motions that are happening in his mind in full view of people. This, coupled with his encyclopedic knowledge and love of Sentai are his only really outstanding attributes.

The only time he is anything more than human is when using his Moe Moe Z-Cune, a feat of super science which turns from an officially licensed anime doll into a laser blaster with the ability to amplify and unify delusions. The gun can fire, shooting "normal" laser blasts and firing a large red ball of energy as a finisher. Its primary purpose though is to transform Nobuo into AkibaRed in the delusion world, giving him increased strength, endurance, all that good stuff expected of a superhero. This transformation also gives him an armored costume, although the way he treats the change, it's more like a second skin with the visor now his eyes and other such things.

The change also boosts his delusional abilities to terrifying degrees. To the point where he is able to make his delusions reality: actually becoming AkibaRed, his car actually being able to become a giant robot, and managing to destroy the wall between reality and the delusion dimension. He cannot just make things happen though, it has to fit thematically and have relevance to the situation since the robot only transformed for a robot fight and the wall is torn down since he was convinced it was how to defeat the current enemy.

His delusions also afford him the ability to summon items that are essentially modified official Sentai gear into a goofy super weapons or accessories like you would when you were 12 and trying to think up something original for a dumb ranger OC. These being the Jet Winger, a sort of wing shaped jetpack that allows smooth and fast flight; the Bouken Scooper, a giant shovel that can seemingly dig through anything and be used as a bladed weapon; and the Deka Wrapper, a giant pair of handcuffs that can fit around a person or be used as sort of claw weapon. It is very likely that Nobuo could create other Sentai themed weapons if given the chance.

Roleplay Sample – Third Person: "What the heck was that?" Thomas rubbed the back of his neck, his eyes turned skyward as he tried to spot a reason for the pink light that had been there not a moment ago. Shrugging off his confusion, he muttered his "excuse me"s and "pardon"s as he made his way through the other bus passengers. Not even in the city long enough to exit the bus station and already he was confused. He had much preferred the small towns like the one he'd lived in with his brother than large cities, but it was time for a change in his life.

Ah, that reminded him though. Continuing his way through the bus terminal, Tom typed out a text to his brother Zach, letting him know he'd safely arrived. He still intended to check on his brother every once in a while, but now was the time to stop babying his baby brother. A large smile broke out on his face as he thought of this, his chest swelling with pride at the thought of a new start. Just in time for him to somehow find himself being pulled back and chocked. Tom stepped back and realized it wasn't some assault, but rather a piece of clothing?

Somehow, a white muffler had found its way around his neck, getting stuck on the branch of a small potted tree there in the lobby for decoration. For a moment, Tom just stood there in confusion as the crowd flowed around him. Carefully, he freed the piece of cloth from the tree and stared at it. He knew he hadn't put a scarf on since he left the last change over. Hell, he didn't own any scarfs. Really, he should just get rid of it. "It's totally cool," were the words that floated up into his head and stopped him from removing the scarf. Yeah, it was. Wasn't it? The smile returning to his face, Tom picked his bags back up and walked out of the bus terminal. He still had to get to his new apartment after all.

Roleplay Sample - Network: [Tom had chosen to type the numbers into his nondescript smartphone, everyone getting a nice view of his face and the under furnished apartment behind him.]

Now, can someone tell me what exactly is going on? I'm looking back and I'm seeing people talking about monsters? Is this some local joke or something?

[Poor Tom looks so confused as his free hand toys with the scarf around his neck.]

First there's that light in the sky, then the numbers for this network pops into my head, and then I suddenly find out I'm wearing a scarf. I knew the east coast was weird, but I didn't think this weird.

Any Questions? Not really.
